Annnnnnnnd we're home.

So its Sunday evening. We are home in Denver after two days of travel.  Friday we went to the Birch Aquarium at Scripps.  It was alright but nothing like I remembered.  It was kinda boring but I think the kids liked it.  Pretty sure it's not the same aquarium I went to as a boy.  Spencer was doing better after the sting ray incident from the day before.  He got nailed on the bottom of the foot and was in quite a bit of pain.  But he was walking and in good spirits at the aquarium. We then ate at BJs and went back to the campsite.  We then went down to the beach for one last time.  It was somewhat spoiled by the fact that two of our retinue had been stung.  But we made the most of it.  The kids had a lot of fun.  It was a good last day.

The next two days we spent traveling.  Saturday evening we stayed in Monroe and left around 1pm for Denver.

Overall, the trip was amazing. I wish we could have gone with more money, but our days were still filled with fun.  Even spending all the days on the beach would have been fun. I hope to go back sooner than wait ten years.

Day Thursday, 2012 Family Vacation

Yesterday was more beach.  The water was awesome, no one got stung, and the sun was out for a lot of the day.  We started out at the state beach, I tried the long board, and body surfed.  It was most triumphant.  In the afternoon we rolled over to tabletops (after a quick Subway stop) and hung out there for the rest of the day.  It was littered with kelp, but the reef was exposed and we got to see the muscles, crabs, and other sea life.  A few of us eventually braved the kelp littered shore break and caught a few waves body surfing.  Ben was pretty grumpy by the time we left and wailed the whole way back.  It later turned out he needed to relieve himself pretty badly.  We drove through the McDonald's on Palomar airport road and came back.  Later in the evening, things turned nostalgic as I bought a double scoop of chocolate malted crunch at Rite-Aid.  The Guinesses also hung out with us for the better part of the day.

Spencer (a nephew) just got stung by a sting ray, so I'm out.  Later.

San Diego (Carlsbad) Adventure 2012, night four.

We arrived at the campsite on Monday late in the afternoon.  I couldn't believe the amount of traffic between Vegas and San Diego.  Granted its been twelve years since I've even traveled the road. And if I remember correctly, I was asleep.  But this was a Monday morning and I was amazed.  We took our time and managed to arrive last.  Cynthia took the kids down to the beach and I set up camp.  I performed the task barely adequately.  I was so burned out from the driving, I just wanted to get the tent up and our crap in so I could rest.  We went to dinner at Roberto's.  It reminded me of Burrito Express back home.  We made a quick stop at Wall Mart and then gathered in the evening and visited.
The next day we all got up around 7am.  Breakfast was had and then we all made our way to the beach.  The water was very pleasant and the waves we alright I guess.  Andrew got stung by a stingray (we presume,  I had seen one) but everyone seemed to have a good time.  Body surfing, boogey boarding, and surfing we all to be had.  The kids enjoyed the sand and I was particularly impressed with Alex Jr.  He really charged the waves and I was honestly happy that we was enjoying himself swimming and diving under the waves.  In the evening we went down to the Mission Bay Ski Beach and watched the fireworks from Sea World.  Then we made it back, showered the kids, put them to bed, showered ourselves, and then went to bed.   Goodnight.
