Argentina Trip: Day 3

Had a decent night's sleep.  Cynthia woke me up around 9:30am and we tumbled out of bed for a light breakfast of máte cocida, facturas, and toast.  The hotel's owner was there (Daniel I think) and we conversed with him and then a guy from New Zealand who planned on staying in Buenos Aires for a few months "just because".  We called a cab and made our way to the other airport.  Checking bags and security were a breeze and now we are on the flight north.

The drive to the airport was nice.  I got to see more of the city, more municipal areas, the coast; which wasn't very inviting.  The water, even from the plane, was very brown.  Sebastian, our cab driver was quiet at first but then Cynthia turned on the charm and he ended up being very friendly and helpful.

Argentina Trip: Day 2 (supplemental)

The taxi guy, Ignacio (from Fermosa), was so nice and got us to our destination safely and fast.  Very friendly and had some interesting stores... Like the four hours without his left hand after it was cut clean off.  He had this gnarly looking scar.  Great guy.

After a light lunch,  we napped until around 6pm.  Felt pretty good as my body was drained of all strength after the last 48 hours of packing, cleaning, and traveling.  We headed out, looking for a place to eat.  Unfortunately, most restaurants don't really open up for dinner until around 7:30pm.

We found a bowling place and put in ten frames each.  In scored around 111, which I consider alright for not having bowled for years.  I always sucked at it anyway.

We finished up and by then places were open for dinner. We found a small pizzeria and ordered a cheese pizza.  United States pizza is quite a bit different than pizza you find elsewhere.  This was authentic Argentine pizza, crispy thin crust, tomato sauce, and a thick layer of melted mozzarella cheese with a green olive on every slice.  It was delicious.

We made our way back to the hotel.  They teach tango here, but I'm not much of a dancer, so we sat in the courtyard and took in the scenery.  A cat immediately showed up and vied for affection.  We made our way up to a terrace overlooking the courtyard and met other people staying here.  One guy from New Zealand and another from Napa, California.  Everyone is really friendly here.  Even though I've never been to Buenos Aires, it feels really familiar due to the fact that it looks so similar to other Argentine cities I have been to.

We made a quick trip to a small food market to pick up some máte and then came back to the hotel to relax.  So far,  it's been an awesome, relaxing 12 hours.  This "hotel" has been awesome.  They upgraded us to the best room due to the fact that over of the guests wanted to stay an extra day in the room we were to get. Score.

Tomorrow we travel to the north (Chaco).

Argentina Trip: Day 2

So it is around 1pm local time.  Cynthia and I left our house around 12:30pm for DIA.  Everything went smoothly.  Customer service was nice and we got on our 757 to Houston on time.  We didn't get to sir next to each other, which sucked, but it wasn't too bad.

We arrived in Houston and waited till around 8:30pm then boarded the 767 for Buenos Aires.  Watched a heavily edited iron man 3 and oblivion before I drifted in and out of sleep.  My butt was sore for most of the trip.  But it went smoothly and Cynthia dozed for most of it thanks to Dramamine and benadryl.  We woke up to a slightly overcast but relatively sunny Argentina.  The weather is actually really nice and I'm glad I brought mostly short sleeves against the advice of native...

The hotel we are in is nice.  Small room with a bathroom.  I think we are going to go grab a bite to eat and then siesta time.
