Softball - Week 1

Every year around this time, church softball begins. Our stake (Lakewood) combines with Columbine and a ward (Roxburough) or two from outside either stakes also joins in the softball fun. This year we have a pretty big league in terms of teams and games. We started last night and the season will continue until August. There are around 12 teams or so and games start at 6:30pm until 10pm on 2 fields. It's pretty mellow. Dartmouth (the ward I belong to)/Quincy had their first game at 7:40pm last night. I showed up at 8:30pm thinking our game started at 8:40pm. Yup, stupid me. So I was about to take off after Dartmouth/Quincy finished up when the Denver 1st ward started asking for some help fielding. So I stayed and played with the spanish speakers. It was a lot of fun playing with them. We got worked pretty good one inning but for the most part we held our own. We lost though. I was playing catcher for the most part. After 3 innings of that I asked if someone wanted to trade. So me and the third baseman switched positions. The second batter popped a ball up and I mis-misjudged the ball. I thought I needed to jump (so I did) but I tried catching the ball with my glove open to my face.

And it smacked my right in the cheek. I asked the shortstop how bad the cut was and when he said it was small I decided to just stay and play. It didn't hurt too bad and I could still see. Let that teach me to field a fly ball like that... and jump like a superstar. Man, did I feel like a retard.

I got home after the game, took 4 250mg Tylenol ,and slapped a steak on it while I watched TV. The swelling went down pretty good and I slept just fine. I woke up this morning and the swelling had returned, but now it's right under my eye and it impares like and 1/8 of my vision in that eye.

Eh, it was still fun. I won't be posting about Softball Week 2 as I will be out of town (In Monroe) but I'll post Week 3 as Dartmouth/Quincy squares off against our arch enemy, Roxborough... I doubt that is spelled right.

alex, its too bad about the injury but glad to see you are getting some exercise. the battle of the cottles should be pretty intense.

Dude, I love the tag "dumb catch". Looks like it hurt a bit. Better bring your "A" game in two weeks sucka! haha.
